Helping Others Is:

Something worth defining a bit better, since we are constantly doing it.

-too often a social judgment.

As in “I will help you to be thin and beautiful, like this airbrushed magazine photo!” instead of acknowledging how beautiful you already are.

-too often a dispensation.

As in, “I am brilliant and my life is perfect, so I am well qualified to tell you, oh lowly worm, how to live properly.”

-too often self-righteously blind.

As in, “I know you said you need help finding a job, but I will help you Change who you are, so you are perfect and everyone likes you, like me!”

-best when sensitive and responsive.

As in… (silently listening and nodding as you talk, and actually hearing what you mean).

-best between equals.

As in, “I use this when that happens to me.”

-best when it helps you help yourself.

As in, “Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.”

-good for it’s own sake.

As in what brings you joy, peace, and fulfillment right now.

As in, “Take it however you will, it’s yours.”

-a gift from the universe.

As in open up and let go, because it passes through you, and it is not about you.
